psysecrets is built on a simple principle: psychology journalism should be accurate, independent and trustworthy. This page explains how we work.
Source Standards
Every article on psysecrets is based on research that meets at least one of the following:
- Published in a peer-reviewed scientific journal
- Presented at a major scientific conference with published abstracts
- Released as a preprint, clearly disclosed as preliminary and not yet peer-reviewed
We always link directly to the original source and list the journal, the study authors and the DOI with each article.
Writing Standards
Accuracy over impact. We do not exaggerate findings. If a study shows a correlation, we say correlation, not causation. If results come from a small sample or early-stage research, we say so.
No clickbait. Headlines reflect what the research found. We avoid sensational language and do not overstate significance.
Context. A single study is rarely the whole story. Where relevant, we place findings within the broader body of research, including replication concerns.
Care with mental health topics. We follow responsible reporting guidelines on suicide, self-harm and eating disorders, avoid stigmatizing language, and never present research as a substitute for professional help.
Not Medical Advice
Our articles explain research; they are not diagnosis or treatment advice. Readers should consult a qualified professional about their own health.
Corrections Policy
- Minor corrections are made with a note at the bottom of the article
- Significant corrections are disclosed at the top of the article
- Major inaccuracies may lead to retraction with a public explanation
