Julia Roberts’ Scandalous Family Tree Blew Her Mind Upon Learning She Is Not A ‘Roberts’

Since her debut in the 1990 movie “Pretty Woman,” which is still one of the parts she is best known for, Julia Roberts has been one of Hollywood’s top leading women. The celebrity has won multiple awards for her performances, including three Golden Globes and an Academy Award.

Since then, she has grown to be one of Hollywood’s most recognizable actors. In 2000, she received an Academy Award for her performance in “Erin Brockovich.” Her other well-known movies include Ocean’s Eleven, My Best Friend’s Wedding, and Notting Hill.

The fact that Julia has been named the most beautiful woman in the world five times by People magazine and is incredibly kind-hearted further helps her get praise from both admirers and detractors.

Unbeknownst to many, Julia also has a renowned brother and niece who work in the entertainment sector. Eric Roberts, Julia’s older brother, has an extensive career with over 700 acting credits, which includes a variety of blockbusters, indie films, TV shows, and other projects. Because of her legendary appearances in the horror and thriller genres, his daughter Emma Roberts is well-known to younger audiences. Her performances in “Scream Queens,” “American Horror Story,” “We’re The Millers,” “The Blackcoat’s Daughter,” and “Nerve” have made her a household name.

Although the Roberts bloodline is still prominent in Hollywood, Julia was shocked to learn via a DNA test that she wasn’t really a “Roberts” after all, disclosing a family secret that had been kept for decades. Continue reading to find out more about how Julia’s identity changes as a result of researching her ancestry.
Julia, who was born on October 28, 1967, in Georgia, always dreamed of becoming a veterinarian. As she became older, though, her ambitions altered, and she made the decision to relocate to New York City in order to pursue acting. She started taking acting courses there and joined a modeling agency.

Julia grew raised in the performing arts industry as the daughter of former performers and playwrights. The children of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. were among the numerous pupils they taught at the acting school her parents maintained in Georgia. Dr. King covered the hospital fees when Roberts was born since he was so appreciative of the lessons.

Roberts hasn’t said much about her upbringing, but she did tell the Irish Mirror: “I have very strong ideas about things, and I have a young (half) sister who is a result of my mother’s second marriage, and out of respect for her and my mum, I don’t believe it’s really fair.” Nancy Motes, Roberts’ half-sister, died in 2014 after what seemed to be a heroin overdose.

On January 12, 2023, Henry Louis Gates, Jr. reviewed Julia’s family history in an episode of the PBS program “Finding Your Roots.”

Following further investigation, it is discovered that Julia’s great-great-grandfather Willis Roberts passed away ten years earlier than she had previously believed. As a result, her great grandpa John Roberts isn’t truly a descendent of Willis but rather of someone else.

Julia, her father Walter, and a relative consented to participate in a DNA test for additional testing in order to learn more about Julia’s family history. The program discovered that its DNA matched someone named Henry McDonald Mitchell Jr. after consulting a public DNA repository.

Julia Mitchell, here I am. You are not a Roberts physiologically,” Gates said, which caused Julia to chuckle heartily.
According to Gates’ additional investigation, the census and paper trail that were examined supported the findings and showed that Mitchell, who had a family of his own with six children, resided within a few miles from the home of her great-great-grandmother Rhoda Suttle.

“On the one hand, my mind is absolutely blown. It’s also intriguing. On the other hand, there is a part of me that can still accept the notion that my family is my family when I’m calmer. She cried as she informed Gates, “And I do like the name Roberts.

The fact that Mitchell Jr., her biological great-great-grandfather, vanished in the late 1800s on the paper trail and that her origins may be found in colonial Virginia from the 18th century further shed light on Julia’s description of the new information as a “quite unexpected turn.”

Meanwhile, the renowned actress’s admirers have echoed her feelings and claimed to have experienced her emotions at the disclosure.

I feel bad for Julia because you’re being videotaped and she’s learning this type of knowledge. I spent ten years working on my family tree, but I was unable to trace my father’s lineage further since both of his grandfathers were not biologically his. As a result, I decided to obtain a DNA test. I learned that he wasn’t actually MY father and that, like Julia, I had grown up with the wrong name. Finding out is both exciting and terrible at the same time. But it does help you understand that “family” has nothing to do with your genetic makeup, a supporter said.

“Best luck to Julia on her quest for further answers to the questions I’m sure she already has.

Wishing Julia luck! Regardless matter whether you are a Mitchell or a Roberts, you are one of my favorite actors! one more posted.
